Critics of the "public option" in the Obama plan say that it will put private insurers out of business. That's just propaganda. We already have a successful example of public-private competition in health insurance -- 27 states and 10 boards in Canada have a public sponsored workers compensation insurance company that directly competes with private insurers, keeps costs down, provides for those whom private insurers won't take, etc. It works. Insurers may not like it, but it won't put them out.
