Atif Darr, UK "Oh and i suppose that Iraq and Afgahnistan were unspeakable acts of kindness" Certainy no kinder than what you have done in Ireland and pretty much everywhere else in the world. "Just because the army are wearing a uniform does not mean that they CANNOT be called terrorists!!" I'll bet the Irish think just the same about the British Army. Watch out for those falling splinters when throwing those stones from inside your house of glass.

Yeah, softer than a marshmallow! Paying ransom to pirate scum will only encourage them to increase their attacks knowing they will get paid for it. American and French Navy have been the only ones wih a return fire policy against pirates but they can only do so much by themselves. The international community need to grow a set and stand up to them. Pirates should be blown to thousand of bits of shark food and no questions asked.

"People think American interference in the Middle East is bad... compared to what America has done in South America since 1800s the middle east is americas best friend" comment rejected, / unpublished, United Kingdom I see we have again hypocrite British pots calling us American kettles black. Compared to what the British has done from same period onwards in India, Midde East, Tibet, Caribbean, Australia, Africa, etc...South America was pampered by the US.

If Venezuela can make military pacts with Russia, so can Colombia with the US. Chavez has no room to complaint.

"Special relationship??? Do me a favour. They only joined WW2 when they got attacked, and then made us re-pay for the next 60+ years for "helping us out". Some friend eh???" Mark, Leigh, Lancs You could be my best friend in the whole wide world, but if I lend you money so that you get out of a big mess, I expect you to pay me back. "Some friend" should apply to those who whine to pay back what they BORROWED. We are not a charity and we didn't twist your arm to sign lend lease program.

What special relationship? The Yanks hate the Brits. [Liberal_left_bias] I'm not sure about that. But considering the long, long history of America-hating comments from Brits on HYS, would it surprise you if we really did hate you?

"thank god. they don;t want us anyway. just remember, the next time you yanks are wanting to start a pointless war, you'll have one less country fighting alongside you." Adam Robertson Same to you next time there's another pointless world war cooking up on your side of the pond.

"remember the last two times our country was asked to step in a save your bacon. Dave" "You mean the second time where you didn't join until you were attacked yourselves? The time that if any ONE country were to get lauded for "saving our bacon" would be the Russians?" Mark, Exeter Russians didn't join until Hitler violated the non-agression pact with USSR and invaded them. And then, only focused defending their homeland border. How many Russians were fighting at Normandy?

"If other countries had compassion built in to their legal systems and moral values (America I'm talking to you)" Chris, Linwood And yet we have another self-righteous lecture about compassion and moral values from the people who not even a week ago, were practically ecstatic about the death of Ted Kennedy with lots of "rot in hell" messages. Hypocrisy, anyone?

"I'm pleased that the DPJ will lower co-operation with the American military. Japan has a huge defense budget for the self-defence force and having US squadies all over this wonderfully peaceful country does nothing but damage the image of foreigners." Joel Horne, Tokyo, Japan Well 68 years ago, your "peaceful country" declared war on us with a sneak attack on an American military base. Don't like US squadies in your country? Don't pick a fight with us next time.

"Have some respect. The Kennedy's were a high profile dynasty not without their fault as and was everyone else. At this time it is not the place to throw stones especially when the USA is a rather large glass house. Condolences to all concerned." Dan D Lyon, behind the barbwire I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I was busy dodging the rain of stones coming from the UK towards Kennedy's casket. But you were saying something about it's not the time for us(??) to throw any stones?

"The USA has a very strange perception of what should constitute a hero. This man's support for the IRA was open and well-documented." Bibi Bibi, United Kingdom Just like the UK has a very strange perception of what should constitute a terrorist. You invade Ireland and oppress her people for a long time and when they finally say "enough!" and go to arms against you, then they are terrorists.

And to some of our "friends and allies" here speaking ill of the dead, what a classless sad bunch of venomous snakes you are. *My apologies to venomous snakes everywhere for the insult.
