Has the MPs’ expenses row turned you on to politics?
Almost 50% of people believe at least half of all MPs are corrupt, a BBC survey commissioned in the wake of the expenses scandal suggests. What effect has the row had on you?
The Ipsos Mori telephone poll of 1,001 adults showed there was strong support among the British public for taking away Parliament's power to police itself.
The idea of "recall" - allowing voter petitions to trigger by-elections if they get enough signatures - was supported by 79% of those surveyed.
Several senior cabinet ministers have come under pressure to repay money claimed, while Jacqui Smith is expected to resign as home secretary following criticism of her own expense claims.
Has the expenses row piqued your interest in politics? Have you taken action over the scandal? Or have you lost interest in the world of Westminster?

We need people who will govern us, who will not react to every whim of the people or more importantly the press and the lobbies. They should be properly paid, with regulated expenses for living on my behalf away from their families if their constituencies are away from London. My concern is that too many women are leaving; Parliament must not become an old man's club. Forget independant reviews no one is! MPs are there to make the law and regulate but should go if found to have broken the rules

When I was a lad I really thought that Royals had blue blood and politicians wanted to do good for the country and their fellow citizens. I have now completely grown up.

I despair at our MPs. They promise everything to get into power, then spend the years in between elections totally ignoring the wishes of the people. We need a better system that forces MPs to listen to the majority. However had they been listening a lot of them would have been sacked and not allowed to stand down with big fat golden handshakes of from our tax money. Definitely turned off by the corrupt behaviour!

However we interpret the recent Political Expenses/Allowance Scandal - at the end of the day Politicians are have proven they are merely human too. When there is a flaw in a System that permits people to take undue advantage for own needs - then who are we to judge on the merits of the Politicians. This is a sign in our Society that many of us have become too greedy, concerned with only our own needs and not others.

All the knighted MP's that have been ripping us off should be stripped of their honours. It's disgusting.

MPs have been financing there own property development businesses with second home allowances. Those are the facts so let's forget about weak justification and accept the facts. Whist we are on the subject, taxation of such profits is subject to income tax at 40% and class 4 nic and not capital gains tax. Why do so many people ignore the rule for private residency and motive for profit? Have a shock, read the law but maybe ignorance is bliss.

All Politicians who have been caught in the Expenses Scandal should reconsider where their their loyalties lie and what their priorities are. I suggest that all money wrongly claimed is to be passed on to providing much needed support and help for all those whose lives are suffering the severity of the impact of the present reccession. The Mental Health Services need to be better funded to enable the over stretched, poorly resourced NHS to cope with an ever increasing demand for support.

I believe that most MP's are actually descent people compared to the minority who have committed fraud, the petite claims I can laugh off but the claims which are fraudulent the people behind them should be tried for fraud. There was a conservative MP in a safe seat who said the public have no right to know what they claim for; all I want to say to him is whose money is is it? Who put you in power? Then who is going to take your money and power away? All answers are the people!

Is it possible that the two major parties, did a deal with the BNP. Did they say 'We will behave as badly as possible, to give the BNP as much chance as we can in any election'?

My thoughts concerning the wrongly claimed expenses/allowances claimed by particular Politicians has wrought havoc within the Government bringing about their own demise! It appears certain Politicians attempt to save face by standing down - God help Gorden Brown as this is creating upheaval within his own party. My point is that in order to earn respect from us the Politicians' Constituencies - all money claimed unduly needs to be handed over to the areas in our Nation that need it most.

I have just been filling in my tax renewal and feeling very angry at MP's who have had it done for them at our expense.
On another note why haven't MP's been investigated by fraud as the rest of us would?

If anything they're turning me off politics. I'm so sick of hearing about the MP's stupid expenses. I think the media are just bored and have nothing better to report on.
Yes, congratulations, it has been made public, and this will result in some sort of reform, but just let the matter drop already. I'm so sick of hearing about it!

I believe - not only is it time time for a Radical Reform within the Government but a Radical Change in the Government. We need power to our Nations People. I consider we need Politicians who show great respect towrds our Queen of England, that Counsel may be sought from Her concerning the implications of sending troops to war, huge national reforms within our NHS, Education, Police and Fire Services and all other major reforms that affect us across the Nation.
