25 June 09-Newquay BBC expenses

Should the BBC be subject to 100% transparency, without exemptions, under the Freedom of Information Act?

It occurred to me after seeing Question Time that those MPs who claimed unlawful expenses who have other incomes, should be made to forfeit 6-months of their parliamentary salary simply to restore some TRUST in the House of Commons. After all, there are a lot of people out there who have been forced to work for nothing just to keep their jobs and this would give them a little satisfaction. Pity this question wasn't asked.

It is about time we as a nation had visibility of the spending of our own money in the BBC. It is against the law not to pay TV liscence fees and a little known fact that the majority of female prisoners are serving sentences for not paying their TV liscence fee. I would prefer to lose a few celebrities and 'add-free' television than waste money on imprisoning women needlessly. Secondly the BBC already makes a considerable sum from sale of programmes and merchandise.

The BBC which is funded by public money through the licence fee should be 100% transparent so that we can see where all of our money is spent. I do not think that massive salaries should be paid out to the likes of Jonathan Ross and others who are doing what they enjoy and are in some cases very offensive to others. This I do not call great talent which the BBC seems to be afraid of losing. During these very difficult times the public are quite rightly demanding to know where their money goes.

Do you not realise that the BBC being publicly funded and safe, is an artificial element in the market, therefore they drag the costs upward artificially. Independent companies are able to play an inequitable system all rotating around the BBC. If it didnt exist how much would we pay for commercial TV? Does Theatre have the same inequity? Time for goverment broadcats to end (BBC)

It's our BBC, we are supposedly the employees of BBC staff so of course we should know, no ifs, buts or excuses, we should know. And if some stars don't like that, then they really don't believe in the ethos of serving the public.

If we are going to find out how our money is spent, I would like to know how the billions of pounds given out in benefits are spent. It's our money, so surely, we have a right to know how they spend it. The BBC gets money and gives us something in return, MPs get money and give us something in return. These people get our money with no strings and no accountability.

we have total right- it is OUR money. the bbc make enough with all the tie-in dvds and phone-in votes and selling old programmes to all the sky/freeview channels... not forgetting the licence fee... which most of us pay twice by paying sky to watch the bbc channels through their "box"... has anyone else noticed that "watch tv" is only old bbc programmes??

Why are we forced to pay a tv licence, when bbc listings are available on the internet bbc iplayer. Shouldn't the satelite and cable suppliers pay the bbc, as we pay them? Or give us the right to opt out of watching BBC channels when TV goes HD. Surely we have a human rights case to be allowed to watch all the freeview channels excluding BBC and thus not requiring a license?

Yes, it is our money the BBC are spending but we give money to Tesco and the like every day without expecting them to justify how they have spent it

I believe that the BBC expenses should not be totally transparent due to commercial considerations. The MP panel want transparancy to draw the heat away from them. The current licence fee is piffle for the quality of programmes (in the main). For example, compare to tenner per month for Setanta. The main problem is finding a trustworthy trust or committee to oversee, in private and with proberty, it on our behalf! James.

Transparency should not be restricted to public sector organisations like the BBC. My pension fund is invested in private companies. I want to know who is lining their pocket with 'expenses' that disinherit me from my future. Transparency should apply to the private sector too. No ifs or buts.

don't you think these people get paid enough - double, triple or even more than an average persons wage and yet they get expenses - when some people only get paid 6.00 an hour to important jobs like caring is disgraceful
