Are British tourists the worst behaved?
British tourists are accused of being the worst behaved in Europe. Do you think that's true?
For the third year running, Brits have been voted messy, bad tippers and the most likely to complain.
It's not all bad though, British tourists were also named the second most stylish in the world. Only the French are better dressers.
The Expedia Best Tourist Index asks thousands of hoteliers and holidaymakers around the world to rank different nationalities by their behaviour.
Even British tourists don't seem to have a very good view of themselves, with one in five voting fellow countrymen the worst.
What do you get up to on holiday? Do you agree that British holiday makers in Europe deserve their poor reputation? Should Brits tidy up and tip more? Or are we doing fine?

We are the worst. Go to some parts of Spain and you'll see why. We expect them to speak English. We won't eat their food. We drink ourselves into an obvilion and throw up everywhere.
What to aviod this don't go cheap sun holidays. Unfortunatly they are filled with sad acts who only go places to drink.
When I visit a someone I enjoy the culture and visit their landmarks not do something I could do at home.

After the insults in the recent German guide to the UK about people from Essex perhaps we should have a brochure saying all Germans are Nazis and see how they feel about that. if its ok to insult and discriminate one way it should be the other as well. if we are not allowed to insult foreigners then they must suffer the same as us in as much as they are not allowed to insult us either. We shouldn't insult either common decency dictates that, Do as you would be done by applies!

We've had this reputation for a very long time. Then again what have we got to put up with in the UK?For those of us who've had strict upbringings & professional jobs then why shouldn't we let our hair down when we're on our jollees for goodness' sake?Providing we're not breaking the law & not too much of a nuisance. We or other people can always get a seat further away or choose a different part of the beach.Have we got to be told how to behave now?

The behaviour I see when I go abroad makes me ashamed to be young (I'm 27 but look younger) and British... People look at me as if I'm dirt despite the fact that I make an effort to speak the language, order local food, limit my drinking and dress respectfully. What does that say about what they're used to from young women of my age and nationality?

I've seen appalling behaviour by Brits and behaviour for which the British can be proud. Bad behaviour certainly isn't unique to Brits but apart from the obvious lager lout mentality & clear cases of rudeness, I believe much of it is unintentional & arises from cultural differences being seen as bad ,- just because it's different. A little recce before going to destinations where cultural/religious differences are marked can save much of the unintentional offence.

Yes they are disgusting, I would put those most likely to offend, the soccer shirt wearing, tattooed, tabloid reading variety on seperate planes, and into isolated compounds on arrival at whatever destination they are going to.
Off course not all are that bad, but the majority certainly are, it stops me now from taking package holidays, it is not worth the risk of having to mix with these obnoxious yobbos.

When my wife and I go abroad, we will hire a car and check out the culture and parts of a country / island without the need to go into some 'resort' and get hammered - Recently went to Majorca - pretty much kept away from the 'resort' clubs, and ventured from the coast - dressed modestly and tried to speak Spanish - Spanish people we met were great - would try and help even with a langauge barrier as they couldn't speak much English (away from resorts) enjoyed it & remembered without drunkedness

All the most recommended posts here were anti-war, then, suddenly, in a suspiciously short time, all these jingiostic pro war comments took over the top spots. As someone put it, 'Team America' bus has arrived. It didn't leave me feeling comfortable. Now I can imagine how the Agfhanis feel about their 'liberators'.

I completely agree...the bloody lower classes descending on Spain for 2 weeks of wearing football shirts and eating "proper" English food. Why both going? Surely with the Euro as it is Butlins would be a much better option for these people!

I'm a Travel Agent that works in the center of Australia's tourism, Cairns. I meet people from all walks of life and from many different places from around the world. On a whole, I would have to say, to put my finger on who is 'the worst behaved' to pinpoint exactly who is badly behaved is near impossible, extremely stereotypical and is not a true statement to any individual. I do sometimes cringe at Brits abroad but I can say exactly the same for many others from many other countries too.
