Is the government doing enough to cut knife crime?

The government's latest project to reduce knife crime in 10 key areas across England and Wales has failed to stop teenagers being killed. Does that worry you?

New figures show knife murders rose slightly in crime hotspots like London, Greater Manchester and Nottinghamshire although the total number of stabbings has fallen.

Police say overall knife violence is going down and that the initiative will now focus on all forms of serious violence among 13 to 24-year-olds.

Do you think the government's doing enough to cut knife crime? Are you worried about the latest statistics? Do you know somebody who's been affected by knife crime?

Asian communities do not report knife crime to us. Go see the Triad and ask what they use to intimidate the illegals they use as slave labour in our towns.

It isn't because it isn't a government statistic that there is no knife problem within the asian community. They are just better at hiding in the shadows.

It is not failure of the government, police, prisons etc. We should not need our streets flooded with police officers to make people behave how they should. If the only reason you do not commit a crime is because you will be punished, you will never be a worthwhile citizen. Behaviour is in your head, not in court. Even if murder was not against the law, I would never consider taking another life.

The PC idiots demand fair representation of different groups regarding stop and searches, but this reminds me a little of what happened after 9/11. Airports totally gridlocked with security staff searching white grannies for bombs etc, yet Mr. Muslim goes through unchecked due to fears of racism claims.

I'm not racist, but....

Presumably the but at the end is so someone else can finish the sentence.

Arab/Asian people feature at a lower than national average in knife crime.

You'll never get rid of knife crime until you get a government made up of real MPs that have some Real backbone about them...MPs that are not afraid to tear up the rule book on Human Rights laws and face up to the true problems of illegal and excessive Immigration, The nation is crying out for a new breed of brave parliamentarians who have the stomach to Lock up wrongdoers in seriously cheap austere Jails. these new MPs must face up to the EU euroclowns and tell them to go sling their hook.

If we are going to continue to allow/encourage the explosion in unwanted children, we must come up with a punishment for violent crime - prison is an expensive waste of time. Sterilisation of violent offenders would be a start.

Most knives used for violent crime are kitchen knives. This sort of reaction bans guns from sports people leaving only criminals with illegally imported guns .

There is no NRA for knives in this country. That is misinformation.

Hunting is still legal, if you ban it, there goes another liberty.

Sit in the public gallery of the Old Bailey if you want to know the reality of knife crime - not the Keith Vaz version.

How did a person like Kieth Vaz get elected anyway?

I am called a racist if I want proper elections
God save us from the PC brigade and the BPA !!!!!

Many states in the US license concealed carry of hand guns after background checks and safety training. While there seems to be NO increase in crimes commited by CCL holders, there has been an increase in violent criminals being shot dead in the midst of their crimes by CCL holders.
And many states have adopted the "castle doctrine", which allows a person to use deadly force to defend his home without retreating. This too has caused many criminals to "assume room temperature". Why not England?

The Law should be changed so the same "prison" sentence for carrying a knife as for using one. Less of the softly softly approach.

Police should be able to use metal scanners for searching anyone. It doesn't touch them in any way so what's the invasion of privacy?

I am happy to be searched as I don't feel the need to carry a knife.

That would cut it when these neds see their mates jailed!

Knife crime as all crime should have a ZERO TOLERANCE approach and its about time our government had a backbone to produce it.Give us what we the publc all want and not this silly nanny state of political correctness we seem to have to endure.

Is the government doing enough to cut knife crime?

This is a very emotive subject but I can't see how the Govt can do any more than they already do. The laws are already there, they are just not applied correctly. The judicial sytem needs to change to deal more harshly with those who actually use a knife to wound or kill, where a life sentence means just that. Those just caught carrying a knife should be made to go to a rehabilitation centre and be shown the consequences of using a weopon.

Why do we always focus all our efforts on one particular crime when surely we should be aiming to reduce all crime in general! This reaction to media hysteria just pulls resources away from other areas.

I am sorry this is quite strong but it is about time we rid of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams and put some real police on the streets. SNT's are more interested in riding pedal cycles than actually "walking the beat" talking and educating children. We need "bobbies on the beat", not dressed up social workers...

The law has become very efficient in prosecuting drivers for exceeding speed limits, with the reason being given that speeding has the potential to kill. And yet we allow knives to be carried without fear of prosecution. There needs to be a maximum sentence of 5 years imprisonment for anyone caught in possession. No excuses.. no tolerance!

This is not a parental problem now it has prgressed from that as the discipline required when in childhood has long since gone.

The only answer to this is deportation, flogging and for murder capital punishment.
The softly approach has been tried and does not work.
People cannot go out at night for fear of being mugged / attacked call it what you like.
Even if the culprits are caught there is no punishment, thats why the answers above are given. It may appear to be a step back but safe.
