How did you do in your A-levels?

It's A-level results day and thousands of nervous students are lining up to see if they've made the grade or not. Did you get what you expected?

More than a quarter of a million students will find out how they've done in their A-levels across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Scottish students have already received the results of their Highers and Standard Grade exams - which showed a slight rise.

Grades will be more important than ever this year as the recession has made university look more appealing than struggling in the jobs market.

Are you happy with your results? Did you do better or worse than expected? Are the grades enough to get you where you want to go? What are your plans for the future?

I got 4 As in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. This wasn't the hard part however, I had to pass two entrance exams to get into Cambridge. Amazingly, despite the lack of intellect I displayed during the five minutes I couldn't find my results on the website, I did pass and so will be at Cambridge from the end of September. Now all I have to do is get through the worksheet they sent me and pack up my room so my brother can have it.

As has been said below - don't worry if you didn't get the results you wanted. I did not do "A" levels but, got into university after a decade of doing other things with an ACCESS course. I now have BA and MA degrees.

I gained an A in English Literature, a B in German and a C in Critical Thinking, & I had two unconditional offers, which means I am now going to university at Birmingham in September! I was pretty pleased with my results as getting an A in English was particularly important to me, as I wish to make a career out of English! Getting a B in German was pleasing as I have worked very hard and so a B was the best I felt I could do! I am happy with Critical Thinking as I got an A and a B in 2 modules!

To all who messed up in their first year, don't give up!
Last year I took AS English, Drama, Geog and Psychology. I failed the latter two with an E in Geog and U in Psych.

For anyone in a similar position, don't panicccc. I continued with English and Drama and A Level, and got C's in both of them this year, and took up two new AS's, Philosophy and Media, getting B's in those. I got into my top choice uni with 280 UCAS points and am now thrilled.

Yayy :)

I got my A/S results yesterday and I'm so happy!! I got A in Maths (& statistics), History, Chemistry, Biology and a B in Spanish. I completely messed up the Spanish speaking part so I'm surprised I did so well!! Anyway I can take the four I want to next year, which if I work hard, should be able to get be into a good uni, so I'm happy :)

Did fine, thanks. 'A' in German and French, and 'B' in Latin. But why are you asking me now? That was in 1965.

All these tales of top grades, from people who clearly have no idea that the first-person pronoun should always be capitalised (everybody knows that CAPS are for shouting in an internet discussion), who think that apostrophes are a component of a 'smiley' emoticon and that 'sum1' is nothing to do with Maths or rock bands, but refers to an unknown third person in the same dimwitted 'txt spk' they probably used in the exam.

'i' can only hope those grades weren't achieved in English.

I never did A-levels.I entered into university with my O-levels after battling strongly with JAMB(the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board)exams for close to a decade.

Wow! That is fantastic - young people have been steadilly getting cleverer for 27 years. How clever will people be in 50 years time?

Don't stress too much if you don't get the grades you need. I failed my A Levels and ended up doing an Engineering access/foundation year.

Ended up getting a good degree and stayed on to do a PhD. There are options out there!
