Is the US right to cut missile defence plan?

The US is to abandon its proposal to develop a missile defence system in Poland and the Czech Republic. Is it the right decision?

President Obama said the decision has been made because the threat from Iranian missiles is lower than previously thought. He added that America would defend itself against short and medium range missiles.

Mr Obama confirmed he had spoken to leaders in Poland and the Czech Republic.

The Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev welcomed the decision and said he would discuss missile defence with President Obama when he visits the United Nations in New York.

What is your reaction to the decision? What will the repercussions be for the countries affected? Are you in Poland or the Czech Republic? How will it affect you?

as an American, please do not hold us to electing him as our president, we are sorry but it was Europe that meddled into our politics to have Obama elected, I hope next week he is not going to drop some more European allies .

Meanwhile, China cleans up!

The only reason China "cleans up" - at your expense - is because it bankrolled your credit card debt for several years. Much like the USA bankrolled the rebuilding of the UK after WW II. Now you know what it feels like to be in hock to an inferior!

I welcome the decision, the first major decision taken by Obama in the right direction. Kennedy permitted the Bay of Pigs because he did not have the corage to say no to CIA,and later, Kennedy stood by when the CIA carried out OPERATION MONGOOSE that led to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Bravo, Obama!

Obama should now show wisdom and courage and talk to Iran with a view to agreeing to Iran's uranium enrichment to the industrial grade and flood that country with IAEA inspectors.

Russians need to occupy and enslave around 16-24 neigbouring nations in order to "feel save" from mythical "western invasion".

Sure, never mind the Poles, Czechs, Ukrainians, Balts, Georgians, Kazachs, native Asian people of Siberia who have been invaded and enslaved by Russians...They do not need to "feel save"? Polish people and other eastern European people desire to live in freedom does not matter, only what Russia wants matter?

..Impresion I get from many comments here. Shame on you!

It was Soviet Russia that split the Europe after WWII in 1945.
So called "Russian liberation" of East Europe in 1945, it was as if some criminal broke into your house, murdered half of your familly, stole your property and enslaved you, yet he had a nerve to tell you that "he has liberated you"

Russian always had a policy of lies and deception. Russians invaded Poland in 1939 shut all Poles who did not look like laborers, right on a spot, and told Poles;"You are free, there's no more Poland"

Finally the U.S.A. has a foreign policy based on intelligence, not bluster and machismo. Let's hope other governments follow suit.

President OBama is quite right in not having missile defence in Poland or the Czech Republic because 1 its not needed and 2 it does not work in any case.

Poles ought to be the most happy with this turn of events. Instead of being the first to fry in the Armageddon caused by "irresponsibles" from Russia or USA they may now the last ones. They could gain a few extra days of life before ALL turns to ashes. Why should they complain?

For those that disagree with Obamas Decision.................

So !

The United States would have NO ! problem if the Russians installed and maintained missile batteries in Venezuela.

Good to know.

The known fact is, a big bully doesn't attack another big bully. Russia nor the USA want a war with each other. Instead they attack little unarmed nations to show their nuclear mights. The US is good at that. Grenada (pop. 500 thousands), Panama (Pop. less than a million), Vietnam, Iraq, and now Afghanistan, are another matter (their population number in the millions). So any nation with more than a million+ is out of bounds even for bullies with nukes.

It was not a missile defense shield but a plain provocation for Russia. It was to be associated with Brzezinski's Plans for the take over of the rich Eurasian nations.

Missiles? The real importance of those facilities is that they provided political cover for subsidies to the Polish and Czech militaries.

Like so many of Bush's initiatives, this program only benefited the rich Texan companies that have now moved to Dubai,

World must not be taken to believe that Iran is not pursuing nuclear ambitions.Iran is already a nuclear power capable of firing nuke missiles as far as Scotland and Ireland.
International community knows about dangers posed by Iran. When Bush initiated tissile defence his advisors gave him most current position regarding Iran's capability to hit whole of Europe and United States.
World must act now to invade Iran and retrieve the huge nuclear arsenal and all other weapons of mass destruction.

"World will survive under nuclear Iran. World power structure is changing. New powers are emerging as India, China, Brazil & Iran." - Shahid Shahid, Chicago, United States

Almost nobody in the Middle East wants a nuclear Iran. It's really saying something when countries that have NO diplomatic ties with Israel and are officially "enemies" of Israel are actively talking with Israel in a desperate attempt to prevent a nuclear Iran!
