Is Pakistan losing control?
At least 41 people have been killed in a bombing near Swat valley in north-west Pakistan. What can the government do to prevent further attacks?
The explosion hit a security convoy in Shangla district - an area the military said it had retaken from militants.
It is the latest in a string of attacks and comes ahead of an expected army assault against the militants in South Waziristan near the Afghan border.
On Saturday militants stormed the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Pakistan has vowed to hit back "imminently".
Are you worried by the security situation in Pakistan? What should the government do to tackle extremists? How should the international community handle the situation?

Hope Not! Pakistan has reared a Frankenstein in the Fanatics. ISI is no doubt invovlved and some echelons of government at the highest level in the continued survival of these elements. The genie was let out initially against the Russians and then against the Indians and I am sure internally against domestic opposition .If Pakistan is to wrest back control it needs help from friends. It needs to be Honest with itself and correct the wrongs and rein in the genie with no holds barred. Inshaallah.

Pakistan became everyone's business when it went nuclear and Khan started selling nuclear secrets to the highest bidder. WP inDC, Washington DC
You've touched on a shunned problem of nuclear proliferation.
Islamabad's prostestations nowithstanding it is a well documented fact that through Q. Khan Pakistan's nuclear technology has made its way to Islamic Republic of Iran, among others.
And what has the world done to prevent it?
Well, the usual: more talks about more talks about...

Pakistani politicians are responsible for the problems of militants, Pakistani politicians have actively colluded with religious militants instead of cracking down on those who advocate jihad & suicide bombings, their own security services colluded with the religious fanatics who attacked the hotels in India
You expect Pakistan to keep control when they have abrogated responsibility? It took threats and direct action by Americans to get Pakistani politicians to get off their collective butts

Did Pakistan ever have control? The question of control in Afghanistan has always been between Muslims, Hindus, Communists and Imperialists as all see Afghanistan as a buffer from the others. Afghans meanwhile see it as their country. Why should the International community sort this out, Britain tried it in the 1800's and failed already?

I’m not worried about Pakistan, except for what US is trying to do with this country (Might ring a bell with Iraq.). US claims Taliban militants are in Quetta, “urging” Pakistan to get them out, or the US will. Then there is the Kerry-Lugar Bill, which seems to interfere with Pakistan sovereignty in order for Pakistan to get funding. Then there’s Blackwater which the US maintains is not in Pakistan. The situation is beginning to look very bleak for Pakistan because of US' handling.

Pakistan has more friend than enemy countries in the world of today.
In case of any uncontrolable situation in Pakistan none of its friend countries would leave it alone to suffer, e.g. China is always ready to help Pakistan in times of danger.
China has recently expressed its willingness to assist Pakistan findng the recent danger situation here although Pakistan's people and its brave soldiers are more than enough to control such danger situations very boldly and strategically.

Pakistan lost control years ago, that is why so many of its population emigrated. They had better get their act together. Like Iran and North Korea the Americans are only looking for an excuse to Nuke them.

Did Pakistan ever have control? If it did, the Talibans nor the Al Quedas would have a base inside Pakistan.

You gotta love all of the Pakistani "patriots" espousing the greatness and resiliency of their nation from places like Tampa, Leeds and New York. Why aren't you home in this demi paradise? And how can you lambast "western" interference in the region when you choose to live in the West? The simple fact is that Pakistan is a veritable pox on the world, the nexus of Islamic radicalism and terrorism and you have only yourselves to blame for that.

If enough people believe they have lost control they will.
It can easily become a self fulfilling prophesy.
This is proof of what we already know. A few terrorists and nutters can create enormous confusion out of all proportion to their numbers or importance.
The Pakistani government is actually doing well in the circumstances and the responsible media should point this out.

Mr. Prince from Chicago, probably missed to note that any country, group, including the confederates- union forces were slighted by the term terrorist by USA. Pakistan, may be carrying a begger's bowl, but filling the begger's bowl is akin to destroying a person-country. Let the poor countries learn to cut their coat according to the cloth they have, which will teach them not to waste money on armaments. Stable economies are not built by tanks, fighter aircrafts, nuclear weaponary and 'toys'.

Though Taliban is the consequence of US, UK, ME strategy against USSR, Is US making lots of problem rather than solving problem? Well, I think Yes, But developed country and up coming country are reciving benefit from the capitalism which US spread in a strategic way.
Whether paticipating the war directly or not, all of the country having a part in capitalism is responsible for this issue. Tie relationship among the international community. This is not fire on the other side of the river...

If we had a poll here from all pakistanis about who is right the extremists or the government you will find that the extremists have as much support as teh government, that is the problem and as long as pakistan has huge support for these religious extremists then they can not engagte in international affairs and needs to be shut away until they grow up! ala Libya!
