What's been your video game of the year?

Fallout 3 has been named game of the year at the annual Golden Joystick Awards. Do you agree with the choice?

More than 1.2 million people cast their vote in 15 categories, including best PC game, online game, and mobile game of the year.

Fallout 3, an action role-playing game that takes place in a post-nuclear world, beat off competition from the likes of FIFA 09 and Street Fighter IV.

The latest in the Call of Duty series, World at War, also did well picking up three prizes including the multiplayer award.

Have you played Fallout 3 - what did you think? Which games have caught your eye in 2009? What's your favourite type of game? Do you mostly play on your own, online against others, or with mates?

"I took up hiking this year and I'm loving it!!
While I've not gained any extra lives yet, it has remarkably improved the one I've got.... you should get one too!"

I hope to god hiking isn't the only thing you do; otherwise it's tad hypocritical to tell gamers you don't actually know to "get a life". Oh and FYI I and many other gamers I know have other interests. I'm into Martial Arts for example, I also enjoy Hiking sometimes!!

As an avid female gamer (RPGs, platformers and scifi/fantasy adventure games - a lone gamer), I can say that no game released this year is deserving of a title. Out of the games I have purchased in the last year, the most recently released one is Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for XBox, released in 2005. The number of video games released that have a good plot and excellent gameplay have plummeted - most of the better games seem to be from 1991, 1998, 1999 and the early 2000s.

Fallout 3 had good concept and design. But the story was ultimately plagiarised from classics such the likes of 'I am Legend'.

The gameplay is buggy, movement feel entirely disconnected from the virtual landscape with floaty-slidy interaction with the landscape.

They can learn a lot from Uncharted 2.

Fallout 3 was full of running great distances and repairing stuff all the time. It was fun but hardly GotY material.

Borderlands is shaping up to be a great game provided Gearbox pull thier finger out and fix the army of bugs that it shipped with.

What about World of Goo?

Fallout 3 was a good game but not great, felt like a MOD for Oblivion which itself was a good game, but had many flaws. There just isn't enough to do in F3. Batman Arkham is the best game this year by far.

"I took up hiking this year and I'm loving it!!"

You know it is possible to like computer games and walking too. I wonder if a topic about best film, song or book of the year would attract similiar comments. You wouldn't automatically assume that somebody who likes reading or films would just be sitting around reading or watching dvds indoors all day, not doing any exercise so why make similiar assumptions about gamers?
