Who should be the first president of the EU?
Tony Blair's hopes of becoming president of the European Council have suffered a setback after his supporters failed to secure the backing of EU leaders. Do you think he is a good candidate?
Gordon Brown had said Mr Blair would be an "excellent candidate" but Downing Street is now less optimistic.
As the Lisbon treaty moves closer towards ratification, speculation is mounting as to who could be in line for the new position.
Austrian Chancellor Werner Fayman said that the strongest candidate should "have an especially good relationship with (US President Barack) Obama and not stand for a good working relationship with (former President George W) Bush".
Who would you like to see as president of the European Council? What type of role should the president have? Would you back Tony Blair for the post?

I am basically sick of Blair's name coming up from time to time for political leadership on this forum. Blair should be associated contempt not world statemenship or leader anywhere on earth after his infamous Anglo-American Iraq's war saga. A man of no principles or respect for human dignity as he corked the 45 minutes eminent Saddam's Iraq attack on no where on nobody. This man Blair deserve nothing but jail term, if there is law in Briatain. Is there?

we dont need another politcal leader, we need the freedom to run our own lives,,,, and we cant afford it, more money spent on politions at the present time would be an insult to all the hard working families and individuals who just about subsist on thier low incomes,

Blair would be an ideal President he has brought this country to it's knees, let him do the same with the United States of Europe. Then perhaps we can bring some sense to this EU monster so each country can have it's own identity, culture laws, oh and perhaps we could trade with each other, let's call it a common Market........ I think I voted for that some time ago....

The proper question to ask is "do we need a EU President at all?" First of all, I want a vote on the fundamental changes in the way this country is being governed being brought into force with a nod and a wink by the Eurocrats. Regardless of what decisions are made by the Czechs, UK citizens must be given the referendum, promised by Blair, on the Lisbon Treaty. I now am beginning to experience what life must have been like for the 'non-political' elite in the former USSR.

Why should the EU choose a war criminal as a president?
For those unaware the destruction of a country's infrastructure such as utilities, hospitals and schools is a war crime as well as a crime against humanity. This is what the UK and USA did deliberately in Iran. Well Karadzic is being prosecuted in The Hague why not Blair and Bush? Of course our MPs are too busy fiddling - sorry - apologizing for errors in their expense sheets to be bothered with anything important like crime.

Many commentators have advocated no Blair leadership of European. Rightly, so. The Lisbon Treaty is still boiling down in the Czech Republic an unfinished political dilema. When the Irish voters voted "YES" they failed to pecieve Blair in the future of Europe or Ireland. What is Blair opinion on EU unity (The Lisbon Treaty) for example. Britain is set backward a million year by Blair's inclusion of Anglo-American policy in Europe. To the contrary Europe is under siege by UK labour ineptness.

The choice seems to be between the former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, Rufus T. Firefly, President of Freedonia and Ambassador Trentino of Sylvania. Personally, I favour Firefly.
Why is a man who failed to stand up to President G. W. Bush considered a suitable champion of Europe's interests in the world?
This system of political patronage merely enables failed politicians to move seamlessly into positions where they can exercise their lack of judgement again.
Blair should retire.
