Can women resolve Africa's conflicts?

Africa's top female mediators are in Kenya to discuss how to get more women into conflict resolution. Are women better at ending conflict than men?

Advocates argue women are better placed to mediate because they are most affected and already possess the necessary key skills such as patience and empathy.

But critics say the same qualities could also work against them because perceived masculine characteristics - such as assertiveness - are more respected in many African cultures.

Do you have to act 'male' to resolve conflicts? What qualities do you think women can bring to the negotiating table? Would women resolve conflicts quicker? What do women need to best negotiate? Do you have what it takes to be a mediator?

There is an international women day
the african day of women
the motherday
and still men dont want to acknowledge the potential of women

DONT SAY
a woman can succeed where a man has failed
SAY
people can succeed where other people have failed
it makes a lot more sense and gives exactly the feeling of being treated equaly
to all women here,
please dont boast to much: you are just as mediocre, tasteless, heartless, selfish, as men are.
also just people as men.
I like all of you.

I think women can bring a different perspective to the table that may not necessarily be so obvious to men. Does this mean they would be better at resolving conflicts 'maybe' but it would be wrong to take men out of the equation. But until women are actually given the opportunity to rise to the occassion and act as paecemakes we will never know. We already know they play a vital role in the background when it comes to negotations why not give them a bigger platform and see what happens.

Let's face it. A lot of men have made a dreadful mess of things! Women can't do any worse.

Well their nagging will most likely get alot more done than anything else, so yeah...

However to find the conflicts they will need to use a map, which is never going to work.

It is hightime we African women realise how much impact we have on societal development. I think it is actually no one's fault but ours that our influence is not felt in the society, so if any change needs to be done, we are the ones to do it. It is not about an african woman emanating a masculin quality to be of influence to society but instead, effecting change and influence in her capacity as a woman. We do have qualities that our men donnot and vice versa,so there need to be a balance.Cheers

African women have played a very crucial road in the resolution of conflicts on the continent and are still capable of bringing peace to Africa. In Aug 1996 Ruth Perry was selected as interim chairwoman of Liberia and she is credited for calming the tentions that existed among Liberian waring factions. Her skillful negociation, patience, bravery and neturality brought some confident that led to the signing of several peace agreements and holding of election in 1997.

Before a Nigerias woman finishes her hair gear or head ties and make up the conflict she would settle has moved into war. When a Nigerias woman hears or sees statistic of deads as a result of conflicts she is to settle,I wonder whether she will not collapse.Nigerias women are tough when they are ready but they must first be ready,Africas conflicts cannot wait just as Nigerias women cannot just move out of her home without her hair gears. Moreover Africas palavas are mens preocupation

Women with focus and sense of direction can help end wars and conflicts around the world if given the chance to do so.
My country is an example. When women of sustance got around the table and were fed up, with the Almighty GOD intervention, peace came

I do believe as a Kenyan woman currently living in Europe we are able to solve the war back in Africa. assertiveness, go getter, no nonsense, risktakers, Hell yes we can.
I look at people like Martha Karua, Sir Johnson, Charity Ngilu, Wangari Maathai, Agnes Migiro and i see an african continent whereby if we had to add more african women our ideas do matter and as fragile as the society might think we are, we are able to do it.
Help with all the knowledge we have acquired in different fields.

women do play a important role in shaping socities that we live in. The greater contribution in handeling social matters that often complex is a sign that women indeed can hugely contribute where men fails. Stakingly we are who are as men because a woman. so never ever under-estimate the role of a women in any thing wether mediation or negotiations even peace building where women prove to sucessfull than men if given a chance.

Africas conflicts are acquisition and allocation of wealth and so need solid analysis of interests of each party. In Kenya,Zimbabwe it is land,in Nigeria it is either oil royalties or monkey de work baboon de shop. There is no man woman factor in Africas palava. Africas men understand easily, shop I shop and no wahala.I dislike our women the only hope we have to join this Africas club.Nigerian women are good in protesting with their mouth and at worst go naked but not in conflict settlement

African woman donot know their worth still yet. They're more in number yet caged by religious and cultural norms which they must break free from.
No matter the might displayed by any man he still listens to a woman.
