What do you hope to hear from the Iraq war inquiry?

Tony Blair's view on regime change in Iraq "tightened" after a private meeting with President Bush in 2002, the UK's former US ambassador has said to the inquiry into the invasion of Iraq. Have you been following the inquiry?

On the third day of public hearings, Sir Christopher Meyer attacked the UK-backed process of weapons inspections in the run-up to the war, saying officials had been forced to scramble for a "smoking gun" while US troops gathered.

The inquiry is not expected to report its full findings until 2011.

Are you confident that the committee will be independent? What questions should the inquiry be asking? Do you think the inquiry be able to provide answers to all questions about the conflict? Did you protest against the war?

This debate is now closed as we cannot keep it open for the duration of the inquiry, but we will return to it at key moments.

Does the fact that us being constantly bullied by the US into things mean anything? If anyone should go on trial its them, they are the ones who commit crimes, although they'd possibly call in a strike on the trial first.
I think we'll see how the US once again forced Britain into something.
I'd like to see the truth, but if that happens our relationship with the US will no doubt fall apart.
I like the American people, but not their bullies in government

A number of people on this HYS are questioning why Tony Blair did so much to help the American administration while there was very little benefit for the UK, these people are completely missing the point, there was never intended to be any benefit to the UK but look how much money money has been made (and is still being made) by Tony Blair.

Like others I expected nothing from this. However it is evident & refreshing the backroom boys are prepared to tell the truth. This does give confidence to the standing of the enquiry and bones may be put on the feeling most have had about the war.Bush snr. made a complete hash of the 1st war & should have gone into Baghdad to finish the job. Bush jnr made a worse mess. As for Tony?Im taking the tumbril down & greasing the wheels today..

the only thing i want from the enquiry is total truth from every person giving evidence, you owe it to the service men and women who gave there lives on your behalf. i served for 22 yrs so understand what it is like to be out there.

I would like to hear the politicians responsible for getting us into this mess under false pretences are going to prison.
But we all know no inquiry would dare .....
So why bother ?

I expect that this inquiry will find Mr Blair morally and legally intirely correct in going to war. Futhermore it will probably find that he is the saviour of western democracy and our vital supply of mid-east OIL. What do I want?...some good old Texass justice ending in a public lynching.

There is already obfuscation of facts occuring. The facts are that there are no links between the Iraqi regime of Hussein and the 9/11 attack. In failing to note this, the enquiry is already proving that it cannot be objective in its handling of the matter. It is also your duty as the media to point out facts like this and not just repeat what is said. Another case of history being rewritten by the victors.

If Saddam could afford to spray the whole village with chemicals in an attempt to extinct its inhabitants, a crime which was executed by CHEMICAL ALI under strict instruction from above, then there were enough reasons for Blair to believe in WMD as a perfect weapon to be used by SADDAM against the west.
The inquiry forgets that Saddam was very clever and good at destroying evidence more than the west.

Some people run to danger to protect the oppressed; some run the other way. TB and GWB took the proper path.

In addition to Blair, the UN should be on "the hot seat" in this
inquiry. Bush and Blair defied the UN by launching the Iraqui
war in the first place. UN didn't even shrug! A useless
organization which should be put out of business. "All it takes
for evil to flourish is for a lot of good men to do nothing."
I rest my case.

I don't understand why anyone is surprised by this. It is not "news" just a reinforcement of what is known. Blair and Bush thought an easy ride were on the menu, and it was for these two meglomaniacs, but the mess has been left for others to mop up. It's about time they were held accountable for their lies.
Bush has dissapeared off the radar and Blair is touting himself as some sort of peace envoy, do me a favour.
